FAQ concerning Superchargers
Q. Must the compression of the engine be reduced for the compressor rebuilding?
No, This compressor kit is designed to be mounted on the original engine and its performance will be enhanced without mechanical changes to the basic engine.

Q. Must a hole be drilled into the engine block as with other kits on the market for the connection of the compressor for the lubrication system?
No, this is another big advantage of our compressors. The unique internal oil holding lubricates the compressor completely independent from the engine. In addition, the compressor is not controlled by the heated oil in the engine, which is ultimately a positive effect on the air temperature.

Q. Why do I not have to construct a intercooler with the Ruf - compressor kits?

Q. Why is there no compressor kit available for my car?
The Ruf - compressors AG mission is a wide range of tried kits. Most important is the quality and reliability of our products. The development of a compressor kit for a new vehicle is very difficult and cost intensive. It requires a large number of working hours for design, prototype and production, and other investments for the subsequent type testing. This forces us to focus on certain types of vehicles and precisely clarified the demand for new types.

Q. Can the compressor rebuild be registered at the MOT and will it be approved?
Most Kits that we offer are Type Tested. This means that the vehicles with fitted compressors where in Biel and underwent a DTC (Dynamic Test Centre) examination in compliance with applicable emission standards and noise regulations, as well as a overall strength test of the entire vehicle. With these test results a modification permit can be requested from the vehicle license office, the vehicle is then presented at your MOT place and the transformation in the vehicle documentation may be entered.

Q. After the compressor conversion I had my cars performance tested. The measured performance was lower than specified by Ruf - compressors. Which values are the correct ones?
The values of power and torque are based on results of individual customers vehicles that have been tested. The values are considered as indicative values without guarantee. This for the following reasons.
The original performance of each vehicle of the same model varies quite strongly. The vehicle manufacturers give the average performance of their engines in the technical data. The average value of each engine from the manufacturer can be up to 10% different. In extreme cases, this has the effect that, for example, a VR6 engine with 174hp only has a performance of 157hp. In a performance enhancement through the compressor this will increase the performance by 40% with the 174hp engine, giving a overall performance of 244hp, but still only 220hp on the 10% weaker original engine!
The differences from one test to the next test can also be relatively large.
This, on the one hand, is because each test parameter is subject to certain tolerances and secondly because the conversion of the test on a chassis dynamometer gives a different performance, where as for the engine power different standards are used. As a result, additional variations of up to 5% can occur.
Moreover, the environment parameters such as intake, humidity and air pressure is crucial and plays a key role and influences the result of measurements. It is therefore important to have reasonably reliable results, always on the same test where possible and to the same environmental conditions.

Q. Can I change the compressor pulley to produce a higher boost pressure?
No! The compressor pulley is tuned exactly in relation to boost pressure on the engine. A change in the pulley effect may cause a change in the fuel-air mixture, this can result in an overheating and destruction of the engine!
Any changes made on the compressor system will result in a loss of any warranty.
Where the stability of the engine allows, we offer a second stage of performance enhancement for some vehicles, this increase the performance and boosts pressure. This includes a modification of the compressor, a modified compressor pulley, and the adjustment of the engine electronics. In some cases, it will also necessary to adjust the charge-air cooling and the replacement of the injection nozzles to produce a higher flow rate.
